A Sustainable Future
Mount Fox Energy Park embodies a holistic vision, where the establishment and operation of renewable energy infrastructure enhances the ecological integrity of the site.
Our mission is twofold: to mitigate carbon emissions by generating and storing renewable energy while concurrently revitalizing the land. Through the removal of invasive species, restoration of native flora, and safeguarding nesting and breeding grounds across 600 hectares of newly preserved space, we are creating optimal environments for local vulnerable species. Our goal is to metamorphose this site into a thriving habitat for native flora and fauna, fostering increased biodiversity and abundance, all while producing and storing renewable energy.
About the Project
"Mount Fox Energy Park (MFEP) is a two-stage initiative set to yield ~ 290 MW of wind energy, reinforced by a 300 MW/600 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). This dynamic combination not only bolsters the stability of the North Queensland grid but also steers Australia toward a greener energy horizon as it shifts away from fossil fuels.
The project unfolds in two distinct phases. Stage one involves the construction of the BESS, projected to commence operation in 2026, followed by stage two, the wind farm, slated for launch in 2027. The project currently has development approvals (DAs) for both BESS and wind farm.
Our commitment extends beyond energy generation. We're dedicated to safeguarding and rejuvenating over 600 hectares of land, battling invasive weeds and pests, with a particular focus on lantana. Simultaneously, we're replanting native species to provide increased habitat for local wildlife.
But our passion for conservation doesn't stop there. Through our ecology benefit schemes, we're actively seeking partners to advance research, focusing on minimizing the impact of wind turbines on birds and bats. This invaluable information could catalyze a global shift toward ethically responsible wind energy generation. More information on our ecology benefit scheme is here.
We anticipate that the restoration of native flora and the resurgence of the understory will create a welcoming environment for an upsurge in native wildlife on our site.
MFEP stands proudly as an entirely Australian-owned venture, developed in close collaboration with dedicated landowners and traditional owners.

News and Updates
Community Open Afternoon
An opportunity to talk with the developers and find out the facts and updates on the development.
Please note, because of insurance and site access issues due to recent weather events, the meeting will be held at the end of Knuckledown Road with the opportunity to view the battery site from public land.
MFEP will be hosting an open afternoon on 23 March 2024. Drop in, grab a cold drink and have a chat. Please contact us at info@mtfoxenergypark.com.au if you would like to arrange a private conversation with us to address particular concerns.
ARENA funding for BESS
Mount Fox BESS was shortlisted by ARENA as one of 8 grid scale batteries to advance new grid-forming technology allowing the BESS to provide essential services to the grid. These services are becoming more critical to the safe operation of the electricity network due to the retiring of coal and gas infrastructure. Read more Here
Work with us.
Construction of the battery at MFEP is scheduled for March/ April 2024, and we’re on the lookout for multiple positions. Current positions available and application details Here.
